7.1 GUIDE TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF PROBLEMS IN THE ELECTRICAL
SYSTEM
Some of the problems connected to the malfunctioning of the electrical system are
shown in the following table, with their probable causes and the remedial action to
be taken. Should the problem continue after the appropriate checks, seek
assistance from your local Service Centre.
Faulty electronic cards must always be replaced without trying to repair them
or replace single components.
PROBLEM
1. Activation of the self-
resetting protection 1) ....

switching off during work, by the engine running erratically or stopping.

Sulphated battery (it no longer
accepts recharging)
Faulty or wet electronic card
Disconnected or missing battery
Battery terminals corroded or with
poor contact
Poor or missing earth contact on the
charge regulator
Overvoltage from a malfunction in the
regulator
Battery disconnected or faulty during
use
The battery is not supplying the card
Battery or card not earthed to frame
10 A fuse blown
Battery terminal crossed
The battery is not supplying sufficient
current
Badly earthed battery, or the starter
relay or motor not earthed
Defect in the starter relay

REMEDY
Check the battery connections
Check the connectors and wiring of the
microswitches
Replace the battery
Check and dry with low pressure tepid air
(hair-dryer)
Reconnect the battery, which must always
be connected
Check and clean the connections
Check the earth connections and the screws
fastening the regulator
Check the recharge circuit [see 7.7]
Check the battery or wiring
Check the connection cables
Check the battery's condition [see 7.8]
Check and put right
Replace fuse (10 A)
Check connections.
WARNING! In this case, the card is irrepara-
bly damaged and you need to replace it
since it is no longer usable!
Recharge the battery [see 7.8]
Check and put right
Check that the starter relay activates [see7.5]
