High heat

The thermal power of a standard "La Cornue" burner is 6 kW (22,000 BTU/hr for USA)
or 4 kW (17,000 BTU/hr for USA) and 2 kW (7,500 BTU/hr for USA) for a small burner.
A wide range of heat intensities is therefore at your disposal.
They are specially designed to provide a stable flame, with no release of car-
bon dioxide, and are equipped with a safety thermocouple: if the flame goes
out because of a spill or draft the gas supply is automatically shut off.
For optimal use, we recommend using pots and pans with a base diameter
larger than 12 cm for the medium and small burners, and at least 20 cm for
the maxi burner.
Use pans with a flat base. Do not use pans that are unsteady or have a
concave or convex base and turn the handles towards the inside of the coo-
king surface. Make sure that the flames do not go higher than the pan. For
your safety, do not not allow the flames to touch the sides of the pan. The
handle could become too hot.
Do not use pans that extend over the sides of the cooking surface.
To ignite a burner:
the gas is turned on by pressing in the control knob and tur-
ning it to the left, to the "high flame" position.
A spark directly lights the gas once the knob is pressed and turned.
Keep the knob pressed in for 5 to 10 seconds, this short period of time is needed for
the safety device to be activated. You will hear ticking round. This means that the elec-
tronic ignition system is working properly.
When you release the knob, the burner should remain lit: the safety device is there-
fore in operation.
