5. Testing

Before the start of testing, note the information in
the testing and repair instructions for common rail
pumps in ESI[tronic].

Information on testing common rail pumps can be
found in the Online Help of the EPS945 system
software.
5.1 Prior to testing
Check the following points before switching on the
EPS 708:
R
Are the protective devices (e.g. hood) complete and
in good working order?
R
Has the component under test (e.g. common rail
pump) been properly clamped and connected
(hydraulically and electrically)?
R
Is the lubricating oil supply of the EPS 708 sealed
with a dummy plug, or are the ends of the two
lubricating oil supply hoses connected to one
another (only for common rail pumps without
lubricating oil supply)?
R
Is the connection on the high-pressure rail (fig. 11,
pos. 5; to CRI 846H rail) sealed with a dummy plug?
5.2 Switching on the EPS
1. Switch on the EPS 708 via the master switch.
2. Start the EPS945 system software.
 The software performs an initialization and the
status displays light up green.
3. Close the protective hood.

The EPS 708 is ready for operation.

Depending on the ambient temperature, it may take
a certain amount of time (approx. 20 minutes) for
the calibrating oil in the tank to reach operating
temperature (40 °C). Only then can testing
commence.

5.3 Starting the test
WARNING – Risk of injury from escaping
calibrating test oil or flying parts!
If the hydraulic connections for the test
equipment and common rail pump are set
up incorrectly, calibrating oil can escape
at high pressure or components of the
test equipment can burst when the test is
started. This can cause injury or material
damages.

Before powering up, check that all hoses
on the test equipment and the common
rail pump are properly connected.

Only open the hood when the drive of
the EPS 708 has come to a standstill.

Replace any leaky or faulty hoses.

If a high-pressure hose connection is leaking,
the screw connection must not be tightened any
more firmly. In the event of a leak, unfasten the
connection, clean the sealing surface and re-connect
the high-pressure hose.
1. Select the required test sequence in the "Component
selection" window of the EPS945 system software.
2. Select the measurement display
3. Select test step "1".
4. Select <F7>.
5. Select the "Automatic On/Off" menu item.
 The Automatic symbol in the operating status
display flashes yellow.
6. Press <F8> to start the test.

ready for the test.
