13 Charging the drive battery
The drive battery is typically empty upon delivery and must be charged. Several complete discharge and
charge cycles are required to ensure that the drive battery reaches its maximum performance.
The drive battery is charged using the supplied USB charger.
Caution!
Do not connect the USB charger to the USB port of a computer/laptop or USB hub because the current is
not high enough for charging.
Use, for example, a commercially available USB power adaptor that provides an output current of at least
2 A. You can also use a corresponding power bank.
Before charging for the first time, consult section 10.
Rechargeable batteries heat up while charging or discharging (i.e. as you operate the vehicle). Wait until
the rechargeable battery has reached room temperature before charging it. The same applies after the
charging process. Do not use a rechargeable battery in the vehicle until it has cooled down sufficiently
after the charging process.
Proceed as follows:
Disconnect the drive battery from the vehicle, completely disconnect the plug. Then remove the drive battery from
the vehicle.
The drive battery has two connectors: a 2-pin T-shaped connector for vehicle operation and a special 3-pin con-
nector (XH connector).
Connect the USB charger to the drive battery via the 3-pin connector. Do not use any force. The plug engages
with a clip.
Connect the USB charger to a suitable USB power adaptor (output 5 V/DC, min. 2 A) and then plug the latter into
the power outlet.
Two LEDs on the USB charger indicate the function:
– Red LED glows steadily: The charger is ready for use
– Green LED flashes: Charging in progress
– Green LED glows steadily: Charging is complete
It takes about 3 hours to charge the empty battery.
When the LiPo drive battery is fully charged, disconnect it from the USB charger. Then unplug the USB charger
from the USB power adaptor.
