General information

These operating instructions apply to Engine Testers MOT 240/
250/251 and the S versions, used together with program modules
PPG 240/250 respectively (which are special accessories).
3.1

Application

The Motortesters are controlled by computer and have a digital
screen display with storage oscilloscope.
MOT 240:
The MOT 240 is installed in equipment trolley 1 688 003 125
(special accessory; please order separately) which has a special
receptacle for the sensor support. Together with other Bosch test
units (report printer PDR 203, exhaust gas testers ETT 8.21
to 8.41 or ETT 8.5x/8.6x/8.7x), which can be integrated into the
equipment trolley, it completes the Bosch CompacTest-System.
MOT 250:
The MOT 250 is installed in the system trolley SYS 01 (special
accessory; please order separately) which has a special receptacle
for the sensor support and for the display and control unit.
Together with other Bosch test units (report printer PDR 203,
exhaust gas testers ETT 8.21 to 8.41 or ETT 8.5x/8.6x/8.7x),
which can also be integrated into the system trolley, it completes
the Bosch CompacTest-System. The two enclosed inter-
connecting cables are designed for the installation in system
trolley SYS 01.
MOT 251:
The MOT 251 is integrated directly into the upper half of the
associated equipment trolley (equipment trolley included in
scope of delivery). Together with other Bosch test units (report
printer PDR 203, exhaust gas testers ETT 8.21 to 8.41 or
ETT 8.5x/8.6x/8.7x), which can also be integrated into the
system trolley, it completes the Bosch CompacTest-System.
They are used to test the vehicle components:
- ignition system
- fuel management
- starting system
- generator
- electronic vehicle systems
Specifically, the following functions of spark-ignition engines can
be tested:
- rpm
- dwell angle
- ignition point
- ignition advance
- dynamic compression
- injection time
- lambda voltage
- pulse duty factor (t-/T)
- oil temperature
- voltage
- current
- electrical resistance
The entire operation on the "primary" and "secondary" sides can

be displayed on the screen of the oscilloscope, stored and printed
out with report printer. The oscillogram permits conclusions
regarding the ignition system, for example typical changes in the
normal oscillogram indicate specific faults in the ignition system.
By using special input B+, alternators can be tested.
With the multi-oscilloscope it is possible to display the voltage and
current curves of sensors and actuators of electronic vehicle
systems as well as times such as the injection pulse duration.
The unit indicates "actual values" which must be compared with
the pertinent "set values" for the GO/NO GO assessment. These
set values can be found in the vehicle manufacturer's handbooks
or in pertinent data collections available commercially.
The Motortesters are designed for connection to any ignition
system currently in use:
- coil ignition system with contact breaker
- electronic ignition system with contact breaker or breakerless
- fully electronic ignition system without distributor, with single-
spark ignition coil (EFS) or dual-spark ignition coil (DFS) with
up to 8 ignition circuits.
The prerequisite is that suitable measuring points are available.
The MOT Motortesters are high-quality electronic instruments.
Strict adherence to the operating instructions is required to avoid
damage to the equipment due to improper use.

the procedures in the ignition tests and the fuel induction together
with the correct evaluation of the results:
