4.1.2 Sub-program measurement of the ignition point/ignition
advance or beginning of injection and injection timing of
diesel engines
Spark-ignition engine
Measurement of the oil temperature and engine speed, for this
purpose use alternative:
F1: Absolute measurement of the ignition point and of the
ignition advance-angle with trigger clamp-on pickup (cyl. 1)
or TDC sensor.
F2: Relative ignition advance or delta (∆). By pressing the key,
the previous value is set to zero. The ignition advance refers
to the previously existing basic value (minus = adjustment
in retard direction; plus = in advance direction).
Oscillogram: secondary voltage
Range: 25 kV/720° or 360° crankshaft (°CS)
in this example, "∆°" = relative ignition advance selected

Diesel engine (only when diesel adapter plugged in)
Measurement of oil temperature and rpm as an alternative to this:
F1: Absolute measurement of the beginning of injection and
injection timing with diesel adapter (clip-on sensor) and
stroboscope or TDC sensor.
F2: Relative or delta injection timing. At the press of a key the
previous value is set to zero. The injection timing refers to
the previously existing basic value (minus = adjustment in
retard direction; plus = in advance direction).
F5: Changeover of the selector shaft 11 % / 15 % for the
increase in pressure in the injection line.
Application (as per information from manufacturer, as a rule):
11 %: for all vehicles except those of French manufacturers
15 %: for all vehicles of French manufacturers
Oscillogram: none
Remarks:
The values displayed on the MOT for the beginning of injection
and the injection timing are actual values which may differ from
one another depending on where the clip-on sensor is mounted
(near injection pump/injection nozzle) and the preset selector
shaft (11 % / 15 %). To obtain reproducible values, proceed
according to the instructions of the vehicle manufacturer or the
editor of corresponding commercial data collections.
The values measured with the diesel adapter and the associated
Motortester (actual values) for beginning of injection and injection
time are not to be compared to set values which were also
determined with the diesel adapter. It is also not permissible to
compare the set data obtained with a different diesel tester (not
even Bosch ETT 019.02), since the set values may differ from one
another.
