4.1.1 Sub-program primary ignition circuit
(does not apply when diesel adapter plugged in)
Ignition systems with a single circuit (one distributor)
Measurement of the voltage (dynamic or static), of the engine
speed and of the dwell angle, each with the green clip to the
terminal 1 (-). Reference point = the engine ground. Dwell-angle
display alternative:
F2: in ° of distributor shaft (°DS)
F3: in %
F4: in milliseconds (dwell time)
Oscillogram: primary voltage
Range: 20 V/720° or 360° crankshaft (°CS) or 100 % or 25 ms.
Remarks:
The dwell angle shown on the oscilloscope is not the same as the
digital display (measured value), since the oscilloscope picture is
in degrees of the crankshaft (°CS) whereas the measured value
is shown in degrees of the distributor shaft (°DS).
Ignition systems with several circuits (two distributors, single-spark
ignition coils or dual-spark ignition coils) with indication of the designation
of ignition circuit. For DFS, e.g.: the circuit A has been chosen.
Measurement of voltage (dynamic or static), of the engine speed
and of the dwell angle, each measurement with the green clip to
the terminal 1 (-). Reference point = the engine ground. Dwell-
angle display alternative:
F2: (only on ignition systems with two distributors): in ° distributor
shaft (°DS) of the selected ignition circuit. This measurement
is insignificant if distributorless ignition systems are installed.
F3: in % of the selected ignition circuit.
F4: in milliseconds (dwell time) of the selected circuit
F5/6: Selection of the individual ignition circuits (primary side/
terminal 1 [1]) on multi-circuit ignition systems.
Oscillogram: primary voltage
Range: 20 V (degrees of crankshaft [°CS], % or ms every time
according to the selection of measuring mode).
Remarks:
In case of multi-circuit ignition systems, the dwell angle is always
measured every time for the adjusted ignition circuit (in °DS,
milliseconds or % for each ignition circuit). If the oscilloscope
adjustment is changed, e.g.: to the secondary voltage, the
measured values for the dwell angle are not always comparable,
dependent upon the set type of engine (oscilloscope measurement
in ° of crankshaft).
