4.5 OPERATING RAPID CLIMB
Procedure for self-rescue:
Secure the supporting cable (colour-coded rope end) to the fastening point. Attach the provided
carabiner to the chest eyelet of the harness so that you can look up to the free-wheel button and
the rope clamp integrated in the housing.

4.5.1 Ascent procedures:

Push both ratchet switch levers fully in and position the side free-wheel button on UP. Ensure
that the free-wheel button engages with a click and cannot release itself. Then direct the rat-
chets upwards and ascend slowly with an alternating and uniform ratchet motion.
When the desired height is reached or if a pause is required, release the ratchets slowly until the
device supports the load independently.
NOTE:
In the case of an ascent with a load of more than 150 kg, both ratchets
must be activated simultaneously in order to avoid excessive torsion
on the axis.

4.5.2 Abseiling procedures:

If the ratchets are not used to ascend, the equipment can be used as a normal abseiling device.
Ensure that the ratchets (switch lever fully extended) and the free-wheel button (in DOWN
position) are deactivated and not engaged. Rope deflection (Figures N-Q) can be used to control
the ascent speed safely by hand.
Illustration of correct rope feed for abseiling:
If manual speed control is not required, do not insert the rope; the device controls the ascent
speed automatically. Always fit the rope into the guide when using the device to ascend and then
continue travelling.
If the device is used to ascend and locks automatically, first deactivate the lock before abseiling:
Looking at the device, deactivate the RIGHT-HAND ratchet (lift ratchet slightly, extend switch
lever, direct ratchet downwards and allow to hang).
Using the right hand, insert the free end of the rope into the rope guide as shown in Figures N-Q.
Now use the LEFT ratchet to release the free-wheel mechanism and gently lift the load.
The free-wheel mechanism unlocks with a slight click.
The ratchet is kept under tension so that the free-wheel button (M) on the device is placed in the
DOWN position (the lock is immediately deactivated).
