4.3 RESCUE WINCH

GB
Devices equipped with a rescue winch allow lifting of persons from a lower platform or level to an
elevation level. After fixing the device to an anchor point and attaching the person to be rescued, the
person is going to be lifted upwards. If the device is equipped with a crank lever, this lever has to be
pulled out of the wheel to support the lifting procedure.
While lifting, the fixing clamp (F) or a separate rope clip has to be used as reverse block.
F
The transmission ratio is designed for allowing heavy persons to be rescued without im-
plying large strength. The activation force of the handwheel is about 40 N (approx. 4 kg's) only
when lifting a person of 100 kg body weight. The handwheel must be turned in a clockwise direc-
tion (to the right).
In the MILAN 2.0 RAPID CLIMB the operating force on the ratchets is max. 250N (25
kg), at maximum nominal load (120 kg). The operating force increases with heavier loads.
If abseiling is performed using a device with hub function (with handwheel, ratchets or optional
impact wrench), it is essential to remove the impact wrench or deactivate the ratchets! If used
with the wrench installed or ratchets activated (these automatically deactivate after max. ¾
revolution), the MILAN 2.0 may begin to spin uncontrollably and present a risk of injury.
During rescues using the MILAN 2.0 POWER ensure that the impact wrench and the MI-
LAN are turning correctly in a clockwise direction. Check that the torque setting = drill symbol
and the gear selection = SLOW, so as to maximise the efficiency of the wrench.
In clockwise rotation the maximum lifting distance is 50 m per battery charge (two batteries are
provided with the Skylotec wrench). In anti-clockwise rotation the maximum lifting distance is
30 m per battery charge.
Do not grab onto a rotating handwheel!
Never abseil with the impact wrench mounted or ratchets activated!
