Operation

DANGER
Risk of burns, risk of crushing!
Ensure that nobody stays in the vicinity of the articulat-
ed steering during operation
Only use the vehicle if all panels are attached.
WARNING
Risk of damage due to overheated hydraulic oil or over-
heated motor!
In case of excessive hydraulic oil temperature or exces-
sive cooling water temperature, set the motor speed to
idling (do not switch off the motor) and perform the
measures described in Chapter "Faults".
Risk of damage due to missing lubrication!
If the warning light for the oil pressure lights up during
operation, immediately switch off the motor and rectify
the fault.
7.1

Drive mode

WARNING
The MC 130 has a central pendulum joint in order to pro-
vide maximum all-terrain mobility.
This enables both vehicle halves to move laterally to the di-
rection of travel independently from one another.
Due to this special feature, the driver does not receive
timely feedback from the rear half of the vehicle.
It is for this reason that the driver has to use the mirrors to
watch the movements of the rear half of the vehicle.
Vehicles with articulated steering are much more sensitive
to steering movements than passenger cars – particularly
when taking bends at high speed, on snow, ice and wet/
loose ground as well as during turning manoeuvres on
slopes.
It is therefore extremely difficult to stabilise a vehicle with
articulated steering by countersteering!
1 Drive pedal
2 Brake pedal
3 Pedal brush contact pressure
7.1.1
Drive pedal
If the drive pedal is pressed, the motor speed will increase.
The pedal is spring-loaded; if you remove your foot, the
motor speed will decrease.
In the transport mode (fast / slow) the accelerator pedal
controls the motor speed.
In the work mode (slow / normal) the drive pedal controls
the driving speed.
If the accelerator pedal is released, the hydrostatic drive of
the vehicle is delayed or stopped.
72
ATTENTION
The speed is reduced when you release the gas pedal; a
property that is different to passenger cars.
In transport mode, the speed reduction due to braking
when you let go of the gas pedal is lower than in work
mode.
7.1.2
Brake pedal
The brake pedal activates the brake system of the front
wheels.
7.1.3
Pedal brush contact pressure
Operate the pedal briefly: full brush contact pressure for
heavy soiling
Keep the pedal down: Suction mouth remains down during
reversing, the material to be vacuumed is also taken up
during reversing
7.1.4
Parking brake
The emergency brake requires hydraulic pressure to be re-
leased. Therefore, if the motor is shut off, it is automatically
locked.
If the motor is running and the travel direction lever is in the
NEUTRAL position, it is also applied.
Note
The warning light in the multi-functional display "Parking
brake actuated" is on when the parking brake is applied.
7.1.5
The first 100 operating hours (run-in time)
Drive carefully and avoid overloading.
Change the motor oil, motor oil filter and hydraulic oil fil-
ter after 50 hours of operation (by Kärcher customer
service only).
7.1.6
Start the engine
The main switch must be switched on in order to start the
motor!
Sit on the driver's seat.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch.
Set the travel direction lever to the NEUTRAL position
- central position
Turn the ignition key to ignition on (position I).
Note
Warning lights for charge control and motor oil pressure
must be on.
Turn the ignition key to start motor (position II) and hold
it until the motor has started (max. 10 seconds).
Note
With low outside temperatures the preheating takes
place automatically.
Release the ignition key. The ignition key turns to posi-
tion I.
Note
Warning lights for battery charge and motor oil pres-
sure must go out; if not, switch off the motor and rectify
the error.
At ambient temperatures below 0°C: Allow the motor to
warm up at a low motor speed until the warning light hy-
draulic oil filter drive goes out prior to starting work.
Note
If the motor does not start, repeat the start-up process.
