12.1.1 Regeneration
12.1.1.1 Automatic regeneration
In this mode the engine control unit controls the regenera-
tion independently. A symbol is displayed in the upper
symbol bar of the display when the regeneration process
is being performed. The tool key in the service menu is
used for switching between Automatic and Manual modes.
12.1.1.2 Manual regeneration
With Manual regeneration, the driver decides when the
Diesel particle filter (DPF) regenerations process is per-
formed. There are 5 stages for this.
Manual regeneration - stage 1
Stage 1 is triggered when the DPF has collected the max-
imum quantity of fine dust. A corresponding warning is
emitted. If the driver has activated Automatic regeneration
then this is started.
A symbol is displayed in the upper symbol bar of the dis-
play.
Manual regeneration - stage 2
A flashing symbol is displayed in the upper symbol bar of
the display when Automatic generation has not been per-
formed or the engine control unit cannot perform this. Ei-
ther automatic regeneration or "Parked regeneration" can
be activated.

Cause
Engine is overheated
Hydraulic oil temperature
too low or too high
Battery is not being
charged
Regeneration necessary
Remedy
Set the engine speed to idle.
Clean radiator (see Chapter "Maintenance
and care").
Check the level of cooling liquid in the engine.
If the warning lamp does not turn off within 5
minutes, shut off the engine and contact Cus-
tomer Service.
Temperature too high: Let the motor idle until
the warning light is off.
Temperature too low: Carefully warm up the
motor until the warning light is off.
Call Customer Service.
Start the automatic or manual regeneration
process (see the section "Regeneration")
Manual regeneration - stage 3
A warning symbol in the upper symbol bar of the display
notifies the driver that regeneration should be started im-
mediately. Automatic regeneration is disabled, only
"Parked regeneration" is permitted. The vehicle can only
be moved forward at a limited speed.
Manual regeneration - stage 4
This type of regeneration can only be performed by service
personnel. Automatic regeneration and "Parked regenera-
tion" are disabled. The vehicle can only be moved forward
at a limited speed. A warning symbol is visible on the dis-
play.
Manual regeneration - stage 5
Regeneration is no longer possible. A corresponding warn-
ing should be displayed in large format. "Parked regener-
ation" and automatic regeneration are disabled. The
vehicle can only be moved forward at a limited speed.
12.1.1.3 Parked regeneration
"Parked regeneration" can only be performed when the fol-
lowing requirements are met:
Travel direction position: Neutral
Parking brake active
Engine control unit does not display any error codes
Accelerator not actuated
Manual regeneration can be activated when these require-
ments are met.
The parked regeneration process takes approx. 30 min-
utes. The seat cannot be vacated!
