Insulation and earth fault monitoring of the IT grid
The reliability of the IT grid must be guaranteed with insulation and earth
fault monitoring. The monitoring system detects an insulation fault or earth
fault even as it is developing and reports it before a second fault interrupts
operation.
Please note the following here:
Only use insulation and earth fault monitoring with unearthed solar
generators.
Insulation and earth fault monitoring must comply with the local
regulations and the accident prevention regulations.
Insulation and earth fault monitoring must be suitable for operation in
mixed networks (AC and DC). Otherwise, incorrect triggering or incorrect
measurements can occur due to the operating behaviour of the inverter.
Measurement range from approx. 2 kΩ
Trigger value 4 kΩ (manufacturer's recommendation). Otherwise, device-
internal leakage resistances and leakage currents in the solar generator
can result in incorrect triggering.
Insulation and earth fault monitoring must be switched in such a way that
the central inverter is immediately disconnected from the grid when it is
triggered.
Grid disconnection options:
– Interrupt auxiliary power supply
– Use a section switch
– Signal input X21.9/10: If the device needs to be switched off quickly,
assign signal input X21.9/10 (230 V, 10 mA)(Signal input: External
monitoring equipment, p. 33)
Auxiliary power supply fuse

Overvoltage and lightning protection plan

Material damage due to lightning strike
A lightning strike in the vicinity of or directly to the photovoltaic system
may damage the system components.
Create a lightning protection plan for all system components (e.g. solar
generator, string inverter, system monitoring)
Put the lightning protection plan into action
The risk of overvoltage and lightning strikes will differ depending on the
location and design of the photovoltaic system.
Please note the following here:
Risk assessment in accordance with DIN EN 62305-2.
Statutory and local regulations
Requirements of the insurer of the photovoltaic system
Each location and system topology (module types, rated voltage, cable
routing, etc.) places different demands on the overvoltage and lightning
protection plan. The manufacturer is not able to provide any universally
applicable specifications to guarantee total protection. Each photovoltaic
system must be evaluated in its own right.
Ensure that you have the required specialist knowledge or contact an
expert.
