• By checking and adjusting the EZ-Blocker position under direct visual guidance, advance the device
until both distal extensions have been introduced in both main stem bronchi (Fig. 8).
• Following correct placement under direct visual guidance, inflate the appropriate distal extension cuff
by inflating the corresponding balloon; distal cuff on blue extension corresponds with blue striped
proximal balloon (Fig. 2). Isolate the target lung for lung isolation (Fig. 9). Auscultation will confirm
adequate ventilation of the contra lateral lung.
• Repeated warning: to prevent airway damage, the balloon and cuff should never be overinflated.
• After reaching the appropriate position for the procedure inspect for proper position, signs of cuff
herniation and air leakage.
• After repositioning the patient or the patient´s head, check the cuff position with the fiberoptic or video
bronchoscope again.
• Once the EZ-Blocker™ is in the correct position in the airway of the patient, the cap, mounted on the
shaft of the EZ-Blocker (Fig. 5) can be tightened on the port of the EZ-Multiport™ Adapter until air tight.
• It is recommended to make a final check on the position of the inflated cuff, after which the fiberoptic
or video bronchoscope is removed and surgery can start.
• In case of repositioning the patient, the closing cap needs to be unscrewed to the extent that the EZ-
Blocker can move freely through the closing cap.
• In case of ventilation problems or failure, deflate the cuff and reposition under direct visual guidance.
• Once one lung ventilation is not required any longer, deflate the cuffs completely and remove the
blocker from the airway.
