Installation information
Cable paths and installation
Only use the cable entries provided by the factory. Use separate cable entries and cable fittings for the
power supply and signal lines. All connected voltage and signal lines must be secured with suitable fastening
material, e.g. plastic cable fasteners, so that they cannot come loose or move around.
When doing so, ensure that the power supply connection line cannot touch the signal lines (SELV) when
moved.
Work may be carried out on the device when it is de-energised (mains and emergency power supply
disconnected).
The devices in the installation cabinet must be protected against moisture. To ensure this, all installation
cables must be equipped with suitable cable sleeves at the sections passing through the entries, before the
cables are fed into the installation cabinet.
The devices must be wired such that operating elements and visual indicators remain completely accessible.
Openings and cable entries
Unused cable entries must be closed with suitable material. Open installation spaces in the pivot frame or
installation cabinet must be closed with filler plates.
Fibre-optic converter
Special fibre-optic converters (Part No. 72661D1) are required for the optional connection of the SBUS
devices to the SMC99plus via fibre-optic cables.
The fibre optic cable connection increases the possible distance (cable path) between the SMC and a zone
databus device to max. 1000 m.
Cable types and specifications
The cables of the bus lines may not have less than the minimum diameter of 0.8 mm and must be secured
with appropriate protective measures so that elevated temperatures and short-circuit currents do not arise.
This can be achieved with surge protection elements or power limiters, for example.
•
For example, the Ackermann system cable (Part No. 89734AH / AJ / R2) or a cable with the same
performance characteristics can be used to connect the lines.
•
Flexible wires must be provided with wire end sleeves.
•
The max. wire diameter for the 24 V DC power supply is 2,5 mm², unless otherwise indicated.
•
Use typical CAT5 cable for the Ethernet connection.
Emergency power supply
The emergency power supply for the devices takes place via an uninterruptible power supply
(UPS – Part No. 89954C6 / C7 / C8). Observe the enclosed manufacturer documentation during the
installation.
Ground
Even when switchgear is installed carefully and properly planned in advance this cannot completely prevent
undesired short circuits during operation of the system. Take appropriate safety measures to reliably prevent
personal injury and damage to property in such cases.
