Optimizing the Detector

Optimizing the Detector
In this chapter, you find information on how to optimize your
detector.

Location

In order to ensure thermo stability and to prevent drift effects,
note the following aspects:
Protect the detector against strong ventilation
Protect the detector against direct sunlight
Note the space requirements
Avoid vibrations

Warm-Up Time

The recommended warm-up time for the detectors is 30 min-
utes. This recommendation is applicable after turning the detec-
tor on as well as and after turning the lamp/s on.

Selecting the Flow Cell

Several different flow cells are available for the detectors (see
"Flow Cells" on page 68). Note that the detector is only shipped
with a test cell. A flow cell must be ordered separately.
Signal sensitivity, peak broadening and response can all be
affected by the choice of flow cell. Important variables to take
into account are the volume and path length as well as the flow
cell material, required working pressure range, flow cell connec-
tion, and remote operation.

Flow Cell Volume

Depending on your instrument setup, column and sample(s),
one flow cell volume may be more appropriate than another. If
the flow cell is too large, two adjacent peaks may get mixed in
the cell. If the flow cell is too small, the noise may be higher and
