11. Operation

This section covers the following:
•

fire pump

• jockey pump (option)
• compressor (option)
• pressure-maintaining pump (option)
• level indication (option)
• motor valve (option).
If the system is in automatic mode during pump start-up, the
jockey pump and compressor will operate as normal.
All additional units will be switched off.
At initial start-up of the fire pump, manually fill
the intermediate water tank to at least 2/3

capacity. Otherwise, the fire pump may run dry!
11.1 Fire pump
During a decrease of pressure in the fire system, the fire pump
will be switched on automatically via the external pressure
switches.
The fire pump indicator light H2 (pump is operating) will be on.
The fire pump can only be switched off manually by pressing
button S3 (fire pump off). If the pump is manually switched off
while the pressure is still at a low level, indicator light H3 (pump is
manually switched off) will illuminate.
The light will be on until normal pressure is reached, or the fire
pump is manually switched on again by pressing button S2 (fire
pump on).
The fire pump can be switched on and off manually by means of
buttons S2 (fire pump on) and S3 (fire pump off), respectively.
Indicator light H4 (fire pump fault) will illuminate if one of these
faults have occurred:
• The overload relay of the fire pump has been triggered.
This causes only fault indication; the fire pump will not stop.
• A failure in the control phase of the fire pump.
• A wire breakage and/or short-circuit on the wires to the
pressure switches B1 and B2 for the automatic start of the fire
pump.
• The supply safety device for the contact monitoring modules
has been triggered.
11.1.1 Potential-free signalling
• Fire pump is running:
1 changeover contact.
• Fire pump manually switched off:
1 changeover contact.
• Pressure switch 1 or 2 triggered:
1 changeover contact.
• Fire pump fault:
1 changeover contact.
• Collective signal to superior fault centre:
1 NO contact.

11.2 Jockey pump

(Option)
Use selector switch S6 to select manual or automatic operation of
the jockey pump.

11.2.1 Manual operation

If selector switch S6 is set to manual operation, the jockey pump
can be switched on and off manually by means of buttons
S8 (jockey pump on) and S7 (jockey pump off).
If the jockey pump is switched on manually by means of button
S8 (jockey pump on), indicator light H5 (jockey pump is running)
will illuminate.
To switch off the jockey pump, press button S7 (jockey pump off).
Indicator light H7 (jockey pump fault) will illuminate when the
motor circuit breaker is activated. The jockey pump will switch off
automatically in this instance.
The fault indicator light will be on until the motor circuit breaker
has been reset manually.

11.2.2 Automatic operation

During automatic operation, the jockey pump will be controlled by
an external float switch in the pressure tank.
When the water level in the pressure tank reaches the minimum
level, the jockey pump will be switched on, and indicator light
H5 (jockey pump is running) will illuminate.
The light will go out automatically when the normal water level is
reached. If the pump is switched off manually before the minimum
water level is reached, indicator light H6 (jockey pump is
manually switched off) will illuminate.
The indicator light will go out when the normal water level is
reached, or if the pump is switched on again manually.
If operation of the compressor is required (due to a decrease of
pressure in the pressure tank), and the water level is below the
normal level, the jockey pump will start automatically until the
normal water level is reached. See section 11.3 Compressor.
Before initial start-up, removal of water or after
emptying the pressure tank, fill the pressure tank
with water up to the normal water level.
Caution
Then restore the nominal pressure using
compressed air!
11.2.3 Potential-free signalling
• Jockey pump is running:
1 changeover contact.
• Jockey pump fault:
1 changeover contact.
• Jockey pump manually switched off (only automatic mode):
1 changeover contact.
