The base plate (1) is used:

to protect the shaft encoder and the CMT drive motor
to attach the electronic box
as an interface for different mounting brackets
NOTE! Dust in the base plate is a sign that the shaft encoder is damaged or
defective. Send the CMT drive unit to Fronius plant 319 for repair.
