Processing, Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization

The warranty regarding handpiece cleaning and sterilization is limited to 250 reprocessing and
sterilization cycles. Once the maximum number of cycles has been reached, a corresponding
message will be displayed.
The recommendations of the Working Group Instrument Reprocessing (AKI) provide further
information on how to properly reprocess reusable medical devices:

NOTICE
The responsibility for proper cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of the handpiece rests with
the operator/user. Be sure to observe your national/local regulations, including potential
restrictions.
Use appropriate and approved sterile packaging (e.g. in accordance with EN 868, ISO 11607)
for sterilization, subsequent transportation and storage.
5.1

Cleaning/Disinfecting

5.1.1

Handpiece, by Machine

The handpiece of the SonicWeld Rx
can be processed with the same programs that have been released for surgical instruments
and implants. As regards cleaning, be sure to follow the instructions provided by the
manufacturer of your washer disinfector(s) (W/D) as well as those provided by the
manufacturers of the cleaners and disinfectants used. The process (including loading) must
guarantee sufficient removal of residues.
Only mildly alkaline cleaning agents are authorized for use.
Remove the sonotrode from the handpiece.

Disconnect the connecting cable with handpiece from the ultrasonic unit.
•
Coil the connecting cable with handpiece in a circle having a diameter of at least 20 cm
•
(17, rear fold-out page).
We recommend using our tray basket for storing the connecting cable in the machine, see

section 7 "Accessories & Spare Parts", page 69.
Arrange the handpiece so inside the washer disinfector that the sonotrode side of the
•
handpiece points downward. This prevents any accumulation of rinsing liquid in the
handpiece.
