Before tool changes and eliminating malfunc-
tions (including the removal of trapped splin-
ters), pull out the mains plug.
Never work with pieces which are too big or too
small for the machine´s capacity.
Apart from when executing dropped-in cuts, the
riving knife / splitter must be used at all times. It
must be set in such a way that the distance
between it and the cutting edge of the saw blade
does not exceed 5 mm (1/4 in.) (see Fig. 7 -
page 4).
Make certain that the body of the saw blade is
thinner and the cutting width (set) is wider than
the thickness of the riving knife / splitter.
Apart from when executing partial and droppe-
din cuts the upper saw guard must be used at all
times. It must be set in such a way that the
entire cutting edge of the saw blade is covered
except for the part required for cutting the work-
piece.
Take up a working position so that you are
always on one side of the saw blade, i.e. outside
the cutting plane.
When ripping narrow pieces of timber (distance
between saw blade and parallel fence less than
120 mm (4 3/4 in.), the push stick included in
the delivery specification or a push block must
be used.
Make sure, that small offcuts cannot be caught
and catapulted away by the rising cutting edge
of the saw blade, for instance by using a deflec-
tor wedge secured to the end of the table with a
screw clamp.
Cross and mitre cuts must be executed only
when using the machine as a pull or inverted
radial arm saw or with a sliding table.
Cutting round timber is not permitted with the
standard guide fences and feed equipment.
When executing dropped-in cuts, a protective
device against kickback must be used, e.g. a
universal guide fence attached to the machine
table at a right angle to the saw blade.
When using a power feed device, protection
against kickback must be ensured by at least
using the riving knife / splitter.
Examine the workpiece for foreign objects. Do not
cut metal parts, e.g. nails, because the delicate
carbide tips of the saw blade may be damaged.
Do not begin cutting until the saw blade has
reached full speed.
Match the feed rate to the thickness of the work-
piece when sawing. Excessive feed rates over-
load the motor, lead to poorly executed cuts,
and blunt the saw blade prematurely.
Do not work with blunt saw blades as they not
only increase the risk of kickback, but also
impose an unnecessary load on the motor.
No attempt must be made to slow down the saw
blade by applying lateral pressure to its surface.
The sawdust created by cutting makes it difficult to
see as clearly as may be necessary and can be
damaging to health in certain circumstances. If not
working outdoors or on well ventilated premises,
the machine must be connected to an extractor
unit, such as a small portable dust extractor.
The upper saw guard outlet 4 (Fig. 5 - page 3)
should be connected to the extractor connection of
the lower saw guard by means of connecting hose
5 supplied with the machine. The air velocity must
be at least 20 m/s (65.6 ft/sec.).
Instructions on service and maintenance:
Before starting any maintenance work pull out
the mains plug from the socket.
Work on the electrical components of the
machine should only be performed by a trained
electrician.
Damaged cables or plugs must be renewed
immediately.
If the slot in the table is badly damaged, the
table must be exchanged by the MAFELL after-
sales service.
Regular cleaning of the machine, especially the
table and guideways for the moving parts, is an
important safety factor. Before beginning this
task, pull out the mains plug.
Only original MAFELL spare parts and acces-
sories must be used. Otherwise the manufac-
turer does not offer any warranty and does not
accept any liability.
