Chapter 4:
DMX Programming
Overview
A Parameter (construct) is a fixture attribute that can be controlled to modify the
light beam in terms of color, beam quality and pattern, intensity, or focus (position).
To program fixtures, DMX values are assigned to each of the fixture's parameters
4
according to that fixtures DMX protocol. A scene (sometimes referred to as a cue or
look depending on the controller used) is one set of attribute options. Combining
scenes into sequences, assigning times and synchronizing fixtures on a link are the
basics of show creation.
This chapter discusses the DMX programming options and describes the parameters
in the x.SpotXtremeDMX protocol. For a complete table of DMX values for the
x.SpotXtreme protocol, see "Appendix A: DMX Protocol" .

x.SpotXtreme DMX Protocol

X.SpotXtreme fixture design allows for multiple configurations. Channels control the
general fixture operation and are basic to all configurations. In a standard
configuration, Slot 1 holds a Six-Wheel Color Mix Module, Slot 2 has a Dual Rotating
Gobos Module and a Rotating Gobo and Iris module is in Slot 3.
Two protocol levels are available for x.Spot fixtures. Standard Protocol utilizes 38
DMX channels to control a fixture with a standard module configuration. By
reducing and combining some of the functionalty, the reduced protocol can control
the x.Spot fixture with 28 channels.
Table 4-1, "Protocol Options," on page 4-2 show the parameters for each protocol
version.
