Pouring ground coffee into the portafilter and pressing
(tamping)
When preparing an espresso, it is recommended to prepare the ground coffee
as well as possible. The tamper included in the scope of delivery can be
used to press and compact the ground coffee in the portafilter. Compacting
the ground coffee ensures that the water does not take the path of least
resistance through the ground coffee (so-called channeling) and the espresso
is extracted evenly.
1.
Fill the portafilter with ground coffee. Use the markings in the filter to
identify the optimal amount of ground coffee.
2.
Gently tapping the portafilter with your fingers evenly distributes the
ground coffee in the filter.
3.
Place the provided tamper on top of the ground coffee and exert an
even, controlled pressure. Do not tilt the tamper when doing this.
4.
Turn the tamper slightly to achieve an even surface.
The ground coffee is now pressed and compacted.
