12. Measurement and minimi-
zation of lateral run-out

The term lateral run-out refers to lateral out-of-true
running or wobble of a tire or rim. A lateral run-out
of more than 2.0 mm (0.08 inch), measured at the
tire shoulder, can cause vibration.
This program can be used to measure the conicity of
the wheel, assess the wheel wear and calculate the lat-
eral run-out.

If the values for the lateral run-out of a wheel are in
excess of 10 meters per kilometer, it is advisable to
minimize the lateral run-out of the vehicle by way
of corresponding assignment of the wheels on the
vehicle.
1. Open the "Balancing page".
2. From the "Balancing page", press <v><r><r> and
<OK>.
« The radial run-out menu bar is opened.
3. From the "Radial run-out page", press <o> and <OK>.
« The lateral run-out menu bar is opened.

4. Start lateral run-out measurement with <OK> (GO).

Following measurement of the third wheel, the opti-
mum assignment of the wheels and the corresponding
lateral run-out of the vehicle are displayed.
Green arrow: Lateral run-out within tolerance
Red arrow: Lateral run-out not within tolerance.
