Gas pre-flow time

Setting of the gas pre-flow time [3] is carried out as described in Chapter 3.5.1.
The gas pre-flow time is the time, after the activation of torch button 1 to start a
welding procedure, that the inert gas valve is open before the arc is ignited. After
this the arc is ignited with an inert gas coat which protects the electrode and the
work piece from burning.
If the welding process is restarted during the gas post-flow time, the gas pre-flow
time is automatically set to 0 seconds by the processor controller. This
accelerates re-ignition which, among other things, helps to save time.
3.5.3
Ignition energy I
Setting of the ignition energy I
The ignition energy can be steplessly set to any value between 10 and 100%
when igniting with high-frequency or lift arc.
Depending on the selected value for the ignition energy I
controller makes a pre-selection for the required ignition process. This pre-
selection can then be adapted, by setting the ignition energy, to the selected
electrode (type, diameter) and the welding task in accordance with the polarity.
When welding with thin materials and small electrode diameters, a low ignition
energy should be selected.
With AC welding units, when the set ignition energy is as of 90%, a "Power
ignition" is performed which makes igniting easier in more tough environments
3.5.4
Start current I
Setting of the starting current I
The starting current is the welding current that is set initially after the ignition
process. The setting is steplessly adjustable between 10% and 200% of the
selected current I
(but maximum Imax., for example, starting current 40% and
1
welding current I1 100 A -> starting current 40A). Selecting a suitable starting
current enables:
Lower load for the electrode due to the increasing current process
Search arc when 4-step welding helps approach the seam start
Welding with reduced current at the start of a seam when working on edges
or hot spots.
Rapid application of heat with values of over 100%
3.5.5
Current upslope time t
Setting of the current upslope time tu [6] is carried out as described in Chapter
3.5.1. The current upslope time is the time in which the welding current rises
linearly to the pre-selected current I
starts immediately after the ignition of the arc. When 4-step welding, the rise time
starts when the torch button 1 is released while the starting current is flowing.
