7 Maintenance, cleaning and disinfection

7.1 Maintenance

Your wheelchair bears the CE marking. The manufacturer hereby guarantees that this medi-
cal device as a whole conforms to the requirements of the European Directive 93 / 42 / EEC for
medical devices.
Proper functionality of the wheelchair, and of the wheel locks in particular, must be verified be-
fore every use. Safety nuts should be used only once. If they have been loosened several times,
these nuts must be replaced.
If you notice any defects, please contact your authorised specialist dealer immediately in order
to have them corrected. This applies in particular when the driving behaviour changes or the
wheelchair becomes unstable. We also recommend that you have the wheelchair serviced
regularly at 12-month intervals by your authorised specialist dealer. The functions described
in the following list must be verified by the user at the specified intervals.
Inspection task
Functional test of the wheel locks
Sagging of the seat or back upholstery
Check stability of footplate
Visual inspection of wear parts
(e.g. tyres, bearings)
Soiling of bearings
Damage to push ring
Air pressure (printed on the tyre sidewall)
Folding mechanism for wear and tear
Spoke tension of the rear wheels
Check screw connections
With a bit of technical skill, you may be able to service some parts of your wheelchair by your-
self in order to ensure smooth operation:
• Hair and dirt particles generally accumulate between the caster wheel and fork. This can re-
strict the caster wheels from rotating smoothly over time. Remove the casters and thoroughly
clean the caster forks and casters using a mild household cleaner.
• The rear wheels are equipped with quick-release axles. To keep this system operational, ensure
that no dirt adheres to the quick-release axle or quick-release axle housing. The quick-release
axle should also be very lightly lubricated from time to time with resin-free sewing machine oil.
• If your wheelchair gets wet, towel dry it as soon as possible.
• Do not use your wheelchair in salt water and, if possible, prevent sand or other dirt particles
from coming into contact with the wheel bearings.
