1.1 Foreword

With the purchase of the Avantgarde wheelchair for active use, you have selected a quality pro-
duct for versatile use during everyday life, both indoors and outdoors.
The section "Options" presents various additional components of the Avantgarde, which can
expand its field of application and improve comfort for the wheelchair user. The section "Adjust-
ment/assembly instructions" provides an overview of the ways the wheelchair can be customised
to your requirements. We reserve the right to make technical changes to the model described
in these instructions for use.

1.2 Indications for use

The Avantgarde wheelchair for active use is designed solely for individual use by persons who
are unable to walk or who have a walking impediment, and can be operated either by the pa-
tient or by another person.
The Avantgarde wheelchair for active use may only be combined with the options mentioned in
these instructions for use and vice versa. Ottobock assumes no liability for combinations with
third-party medical devices and/or accessories not included in the modular system.
Combinations based on a combination agreement that have been evaluated for effectiveness
and safety are an exception to this.

1.3 Area of application

The broad range of equipment options and the modular design allow the product to be used by
people who are unable to walk or have a walking impediment, for example due to:
• Paralysis (paraplegia/tetraplegia)
• Loss of limbs (leg amputation)
• Limb defects/deformation
