3.2.2. Preparing the model

The more accurately you set up the mechanical systems on your model, the easier it
will be to control your helicopter accurately.
Move the sticks and trims to centre. Check that the centre position for all servos is set
to 0% (see 8.3.2.), and that the signal format is set to suit the servo you are using (see
8.3.1.).

Servos
The output arms must be mounted on the roll, pitch-axis, collective pitch and
yaw servos in such a way that they are at right-angles to the pushrods attached
to them when the servos are at neutral. Adjust the pushrods as described in the
building instructions supplied with your helicopter.

Tail rotor (yaw)
The actuating lever at the tail rotor and the output arm on the yaw servo must
be at right-angles to the pushrod; adjust the length of the pushrod until this is
the case. This will produce a basic tail rotor setting which will be correct in most
cases. Check that the maximum tail rotor travel is as stated in the helicopter's
building instructions (re-connect the pushrod if necessary).

120º rotor head
When the stick is at neutral, the swashplate must be exactly horizontal.

Set up the blade pitch angle at the main rotor to provide the maximum and
minimum collective pitch values as stated in the model's instructions. Note that
auto-rotation must be switched off when you set the values for normal flying.
The swashplate should remain exactly horizontal at all positions of the collective
pitch stick.
Now switch to AUTO-ROTATION and check that the swashplate is not
obstructed (servos stalled) at either end-point; if it is, then the travels you have
set are excessive.
Adjust the throttle servo so that the carburettor cannot be damaged when driven to
the MOTOR OFF and FULL THROTTLE settings. This is the procedure:

Set switch S1 (MOT OFF / TIMER) to the MOT OFF position
Move to the SERVO menu, and adjust the travel for servo 5 so that the
carburettor is completely closed, but the pushrod is not under load.

Switch on AUTO-ROTATION
Move the THROTTLE slider to the full throttle position
Move to the SERVO menu, and adjust the travel for servo 5 so that the
carburettor is completely open, but the pushrod is not under load.
