USE
4.1
BEFORE EACH USE: Verify that your work area and Fall Protection system meet all criteria defined in these instructions.
Verify that a formal Rescue Plan is in place. Inspect the product per the 'User' inspection points defined in the "Inspection
and Maintenance Log". If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, or if there is any doubt about its condition
for safe use, remove the product from service immediately. Clearly tag the product "DO NOT USE". See Section 5 for more
information.
4.2
AFTER EACH USE: After any use of the product, information regarding product usage should be listed in the Descent Log
or Lifting Log as applicable. The information in these logs should then be compared against the usage limits for descent
and lifting applications specified in Table 1. If at any time these usage limits are exceeded, then the product must be
removed from service immediately. See Section 5 for more information.
;
Product that has been used in an emergency situation must be removed from service immediately.
4.4
RESCUE APPLICATIONS: This product may be used for the following rescue applications as outlined below.
;
Maintain line of sight or communication between the attendant and attached person at all times.
;
This product may become hot during use. During use, do not touch any parts other than those used to handle
descent. Use beyond the specified capacity limits may generate excessive heat that could damage the lifeline.
;
Always wear gloves when handling the lifeline.
;
Never use a body belt with this product. 3M recommends using a full body harness.
A.
ANCHOR-MOUNTED APPLICATIONS: The following rescue applications describe use with the product when it is
secured to an anchorage point.
;
Always position the rescue device as directly above the user as possible. Keep the user upright during use.
;
The height of the anchor point (H) above the working surface must be 9.84 ft. (3.0 m) or less.
1.
SINGLE-PERSON DESCENT: A single user may connect to the rescue device to descend to a lower platform. To
perform a single-person descent:
a.
Connect to the user's full body harness. Secure the Lifeline Connector (C) to the Sternal D-ring (S) or
Dorsal D-ring (D) on the user's harness. For more information, see the manufacturer instructions of your
harness.
b.
Prepare the lifeline for descent. Remove all slack from the length of lifeline between the secured user
and the rescue device. To tighten, pull on the free end of the lifeline until all slack is removed. Hold the free
end of the lifeline taut as you prepare to lower the secured user. Guide the lifeline through the brake pins of
the brake handle as shown in Position 1 (P1).
c.
Complete the descent. The attendant should unlock the Brake Lever (L) of the brake handle to begin
descent. Descent will be controlled manually by the attendant. To interrupt descent, the attendant must
release the brake lever to allow it to return to its locked position. To increase descent speed, the attendant
may route the lifeline through Position 2 (P2) or Position 3 (P3) of the brake handle.
2.
TWO-PERSON DESCENT: Two users may connect to the rescue device to descend simultaneously. This type of
descent may be performed to have an attendant monitor a fall victim as they descend to safety. To perform a
two-person descent:
;
If the victim is not where you are located, then it may be necessary to descend to the victim or raise them
to your position first. See "Single-Person Descent" for more information.
a.
Connect to the rescuer's full body harness. Identify the person who will complete a two-person descent
with the fall victim as a rescuer. Secure the Lifeline Connector (C) to the Sternal D-ring (S) or Dorsal D-ring
(D) on the rescuer's harness. For more information, see the manufacturer instructions of your harness.
b.
Prepare the lifeline for descent. Remove all slack from the length of lifeline between the secured user
and the rescue device. To tighten, pull on the free end of the lifeline until all slack is removed. Hold the free
end of the lifeline taut as you prepare to lower the secured user. Guide the lifeline through the brake pins of
the brake handle as shown in Position 4 (P4).
c.
Connect the fall victim to the rescue device. Secure a Rescue Lanyard (R) or similar rescue subsystem
to the Connector (C) secured to the rescuer's harness. Secure the other end of the rescue subsystem to the
sternal D-ring or dorsal D-ring on the victim's harness.
d.
Disconnect the victim's connecting subsystem. Verify that the victim is secured to the rescue device,
then detach their connecting subsystem (energy-absorbing lanyard, SRD, etc.) to free them for descent.
e.
Complete the descent. The attendant should unlock the Brake Lever (L) of the brake handle to begin
descent. Descent will be controlled manually by the attendant. To interrupt descent, the attendant must
release the brake lever to allow it to return to its locked position. To increase descent speed, the attendant
may route the lifeline through Position 5 (P5), Position 6 (P6), or Position 7 (P7) of the brake handle.
