Chronometer certification
"Chronometercertified" means that the move
ment of a watch is adjusted to within a tolerance
of between 4 /+6 seconds per 24 hours, corresponding to
99.99% precision. This supreme guarantee of reliability and
precision is issued by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing
Institute (COSC), an independent organisation certified by the
Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS). Mechanical movements
must satisfy a range of extremely stringent criteria to earn
this much soughtafter distinction. Each movement is indi
vidually tested over a period of fifteen consecutive days and
nights, in five different positions and at three different tem
peratures. For more information, please consult the following
website : www.cosc.ch
Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark
Representing the coatofarms of the city of
Geneva, the Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark is one of the
oldest horological certifications. This set of regulations issued
in 1886 testifies to Geneva's grand watchmaking tradition and
to the expertise patiently acquired over generations. A reliable
token of quality, this prestigious hallmark testifies to excep
tional workmanship and stems from an authentic philosophy
that tolerates no compromises on the quality of the movement
components and of the watch as a whole. The Poinçon de
Genève is a highly demanding certification that guarantees
the origin, craftsmanship, quality and exceptional expertise
of mechanical watches that are assembled, adjusted and
controlled in the Canton of Geneva. It is governed by rigor
ous criteria encompassing technical aspects and functional
characteristics as well as the overall aesthetic of a given model.
These criteria include extremely precise specifications relating
to all movement components and additional mechanisms, to
the materials used, to the finish, as well as to the construction
and the assembly of the watch. For more information, please

Fleurier Quality Foundation
(FQF)
The Fleurier Quality Foundation
is another independent body to which the Chopard
Manufacture applies for a control of the quality of its time
pieces. As an independent organisation, the Fleurier Quality
Foundation derives its legitimacy from the active participation
of public authorities, particularly that of the Swiss govern
ment represented by the State Secretariat for Economic
Affairs (SECO). The protocol governing this certification is
extremely complex because, in addition to submission to
the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC)
intended to guarantee precision, a watch is tested in its
entirety in order to verify its overall quality. The Chronofiable
test ensures the durability of its movement by means of an
ageing cycle, a set of pushpull operations on the winding
stem, tests relating to reactions to magnetic fields, as well as
a shockresistance test using the pendulumstriker impact
machine. It must also comply with the numerous technical
and aesthetic criteria composing the specifications laid down
by the Fleurier Quality Foundation regarding the choice of
materials and of decorative and finishing techniques. After
this, the rate of the finished watch undergoes a further con
trol on the Fleuritest machine. This machine reproduces the
most realistic possible simulation of a 24hour wear cycle,
and ensures that the variation in rate falls within a range of
0 to +5 seconds per day. Finally the watch "head" (meaning the
case, display and complete movement with its casing ring) and
its components must be entirely manufactured in Switzerland.
This includes development, production, assembly and test
ing operations and excludes nonprocessed materials. Only
when a watch has successfully sailed through all these
stages can it be granted the Fleurier Quality Foundation label.
