SERVICE POINTS

Cylinder head inspection

1. Eliminate:
Carbon deposits
G
(with a rounded scraper 1)
CAUTION:
Do not use a sharp instrument to avoid
damaging or scratching the cylinder head
or spark plug bore threads.
2. Inspect:
G Cylinder head water jacket
Corrosion/mineral deposits → Clean
or replace.
3. Measure:
Cylinder head warpage
G
(with a straightedge and thickness
gauge)
Out of specification/score marks →
Resurface.
Warpage limit:
0.1 mm (0.004 in)
NOTE:
Place a 400–600 grit wet sandpaper on a
surface plate and resurface the cylinder
head using a figure-eight sanding pattern.
