Creating a reference program and setting the posi-
tion of the wire electrode in relation to the focus
point of the laser
Safety
General
A low-power pilot laser is required for this work.
The position of the focal spot for the laser beam relative to the workpiece and the wire elec-
trode end of the arc process can be adjusted in the x and y coordinate axes.
A reference program has to be created:
-
-
The position of the wire electrode in relation to the focal spot of the laser has to checked:

Creating a refer-
A metal gauge for precise positioning of the wire electrode relative to the focal spot of the
ence program
laser is included as part of the laser welding head scope of supply.
This gauge is fitted within the operating range of the robot and is used to create a reference
program for series components.
Create a reference program before welding the first series component:

The best welding result will be used as the basis for the reference program.
WARNING! Work that is carried out incorrectly can cause serious injury and dam-
age. Set up work must only be performed by trained and qualified personnel. Ob-
serve the safety regulations in the operating instructions, paying particular
attention to the section entitled "Safety inspection".
after fitting the laser welding head for the first time
when programming a new reference point (new component)
each time the laser welding head is replaced
each time the laser optics system is replaced
each time the welding torch is changed
Fit the gauge (1) within the operating range of the robot
Identify the TCP for the laser welding head
Use the robot to align the laser optics system parallel to the test workpiece
Use the robot to adjust the laser optics system to the correct laser focal length along
the z-axis of the laser welding head
Note the marking on the laser optics system when adjusting it along the z-axis.
Refer to the operating instructions from the laser optics system manufacturer for the
correct laser focal length
Thread the wire electrode
On the welding torch of the laser welding head, set an appropriate stick out for the ap-
plication in question (14 mm)
Use the x and y adjustment units to position the wire electrode in relation to the focal
spot of the laser
The wire electrode should touch the test workpiece.
Carry out some trial welds and document the stick out and value sets
