START-UP

6. Start-up
The "Start-up" section contains all the important
instructions for the operating personnel for start-
ing up and operating the pump station.
The following conditions must be adhered to and
monitored:
• Inflow amount

• Level controller

• Alternate operation of the pumps
If the machine has not been operated for an
extended period, also check these conditions
and rectify any identified faults.
Always keep this manual either by the pump sta-
tion or in a place specially reserved for it, where it
is accessible for the entire operating personnel at
all times.
In order to prevent damage or serious injury
during startup of the pump station, the following
points must be observed:
• The system start-up may only be carried out by
qualified persons. The safety precautions must be
followed at all times.
• All persons working on or with the pump station
must have received, read and understood this
operating and maintenance manual.
• All safety devices and emergency cut-outs must
be connected and checked to ensure that they
work properly.
• Electrical and mechanical adjustments must be
made by specialist staff.
• The waste water pump station is suitable for use
under the specified operating conditions.
• The work area of the pump station is not a rec-
reational area and is to be kept free of people!
No persons are allowed in the work area during
start-up or operation.
• A second person must be present when working
in shafts. Adequate ventilation must be ensured if
there is danger of poisonous gases forming.
• Check all flange connections that they are tight
and correct if necessary.

6.1. Electrical system

Connect the pump station and install the power
supply cables as described in the assembly and
connection diagram, and in accordance with
the VDE guidelines and applicable national
regulations.
The pump station must be properly protected
and grounded.
Pay attention to the pumps' direction of rotation!
If the direction of rotation is wrong, the waste
water is pumped into the collector tank and can
cause the tank to burst.
Make sure all monitoring devices are connected
and have been tested.
ELECTRICAL hazard!
Electrical current can cause fatal injuries if not
handled correctly! All electrical components
must be connected by a qualified electrician.

6.2. Rotation direction check of the pumps

For information about the rotation direction
check and any change in direction, please see
the operating and maintenance manual from
the pump manufacturer.

6.3. How it works

Fig. 2.: Components

Separation flap
The waste water flows through the intake (1) into
a distributor (2) and then into two solids sepa-
ration tanks (3) which are side by side and can
be shut off individually. These solids separation
tanks (3) are located in front of the pump dis-
charge ports and have a separation flap (4) which
"filters out" solids which are too large (depending
on the flow diameter of the particular pump).
Only "pre-cleaned waste water" therefore passes
through the idle pump into the common collector
tank (5).
When the maximum water level in the collec-
tor tank (5) has been reached, a level controller
instructs the particular pump to start pumping.
The pumps run alternately, parallel operation is
not permitted.
The flow from the working pump opens the sep-
aration flap of the solids separation tank (3) and,
due to the flow speed, pumps all the solids held
in the solids separation tank (3) into the outgoing
discharge pipe (7). This pumping process also
cleans the solids separation tank (3) with the
"pre-cleaned" waste water.
Shortly before pumping begins, the particular
solids separation tank (3) is closed on the intake
side by a floating shut-off ball (6). At the same
time, the waste water flowing in is pre-filtered by
the second solids separation tank and fed into the
collector tank.
6.4. Level controller
Two versions of level controller are offered
ex factory:
• Closed pneumatic system using air bellows
or  i mmersion bell
• Hydrostatic pressure transducer
6.4.1. Closed pneumatic system using air bellows or im-
mersion bell
This version regulates using a sensor closed
against the atmosphere:
• The compression resulting from the filling process
sends a signal to switch on the pump.
• The decompression resulting from the discharging
process sends a signal to switch off the pump.
The electrical contacts are in the control cabinet
outside the area at risk of explosion. The operat-
