CONTENT OF THE TEDS MODULE

The key information in the TEDS module is organized into templates, which are prestruc
tured to store defined groups of data in table form. Only the entered values are stored in
the TEDS module. The amplifier firmware assigns the interpretation of the respective nu
merical values. This minimizes the memory requirement in TEDS, but requires a TEDS-
enabled measuring amplifier.
User rights hierarchy
Different user rights are possible in order to amend the entries in the templates, and
those rights may differ from one entry to the next within a template. However, no infor
mation is stored in TEDS about who has what rights. This is only done by the hardware or
software writing to the TEDS module. So you might not be able to change all entries with
one device or software program.
S
Standard rights (USR level)
This level concerns rights which the users of the transducer need in order to change
the entries which depend on the conditions of use, such as a measuring point identifi
cation number.
S
Calibration rights (CAL level)
This level concerns rights which are needed by a calibration laboratory, for instance, if
the sensitivity in the TEDS needs to be changed.
S
Administrator rights (ID level)
Administrator rights in relation to TEDS are intended for the sensor manufacturer.
With these rights, all entries except the TEDS module identification number can be
changed.
What is stored on the module?
The memory contents are divided into four areas:
S
Area 1
An internationally unique identification number (cannot be changed).
S
Area 2
The base area (basic TEDS), to the configuration defined in standard IEEE 1451.4. The
transducer type, the manufacturer and the transducer serial number are contained
here. Writing to or modifying this area might require ID level user rights.
S
Area 3
This area contains transducer characteristics defined by the manufacturer or ad
justable by user calibration. They are organized into templates which store defined
groups of data in a summarized form.
At least one template must be present for transducer writing. Depending on the sen
sor type, this indicates
