4.2.1 General Safety Instructions

WARNING
Risk of accident while operating a vehicle
The ability of orthosis users to operate a vehicle is determined on a case-by-case basis. This depends on the indi­
vidual abilities of the orthosis wearer.
► This may lead to an accident due to unexpected actions of the orthosis.
→ All users are required to observe their country's national and state driving laws when operating vehicles. For
insurance purposes, drivers should have their driving ability examined and approved by an authorised test
centre.
→ In general, Ottobock recommends that the vehicle should be professionally retrofitted to meet each user's
individual needs.
→ Safe driving must be ensured even when the orthosis is not functioning.
WARNING
Damaged power supply, adapter plug or battery charger
This may cause an electric shock caused by:
► Contact with exposed, live components.
→ Do not open the power supply, adapter plug or battery charger.
→ Replace damaged power supplies, adapter plugs or battery chargers immediately.
CAUTION
Signs of wear on system components
This may lead to falling caused by:
► Malfunctioning of the orthosis.
→ In the interest of user safety and in order to maintain reliability and protect the warranty, the specified service
intervals must be observed.
CAUTION
Malfunction of the orthosis
► This may lead to falling.
→ Observe the acoustic warning signals (beep signals) of the orthosis Safety Mode Activation Indicator.
CAUTION
Failure to observe the safety instructions
This can have the following consequences:
► Injury due to faulty control or malfunction of the orthosis.
► Destruction of the orthosis.
→ Observe the safety instructions in these instructions for use.
CAUTION
Independent manipulation of system components
This may lead to falling caused by:
► Malfunctioning of the orthosis.
► Breakage of load-bearing components.
→ The orthosis joint may only be opened and repaired by authorised Ottobock technicians.
→ For safety reasons, battery service may only be performed by Ottobock Service (batteries may not be replaced
by the user).
