9 Replacing the Spring Element
INFORMATION
Configuring an improper spring stiffness increases the amount of energy expended by the patient while walking.
The spring element is available with various levels of flexural stiffness depending on patient requirements. The
spring elements can be trimmed to the corresponding length.
NOTICE
Damage to the spring element
>
Careless handling can damage the electronics in the spring element or the contacts.
► Great care is required when replacing the spring element.
10 Cleaning
NOTICE
Use of unsuitable cleaning agents
>
This may lead to surface damage and/or cause adhesive joints to loosen.
► Do not let the orthosis come into contact with acids or alkaline solutions, and do not treat it with strong clean
ing agents.
Clean the orthosis regularly, especially the orthosis shells. Normally, cleaning with a damp cloth will be entirely suf
ficient. Ottobock Derma Clean® is recommended for disinfecting the orthosis.
Clean any plastic surfaces with water and skin-friendly soap. Removable pads, if any, can be washed separately at
a maximum temperature of 30°C / 86°F. It is important to thoroughly dry the cleaned surfaces (not on a heater) and
to make sure that no soap residue remains on the orthosis since this could cause skin irritation.
11 Maintenance
In the interest of patient safety and in order to maintain reliability and protect the warranty, the specified service
intervals must be observed. This service inspection includes an inspection of the sensors and the replacement of
worn parts.
The complete orthosis with the battery charger and power supply must be sent in for the service inspection.
