CAUTION
Walking up stairs
This may lead to falling caused by:
► Improperly setting down the foot (extended leg and toe load); the orthosis may switch to the swing phase (no
damping).
→ When walking up stairs, always use the handrail and place the full foot surface of the orthosis down onto the
full surface of the step.
→ Always step up with the sound leg and follow with the orthosis leg. Support from the spring element while
walking up stairs (bouncing with the extended orthosis) is not allowable and must be avoided. This type of
load can cause the orthosis to switch to the swing phase (no damping).
→ Particular caution is required when carrying children up stairs.
CAUTION
Walking down stairs
This may lead to falling caused by:
► Setting down the foot improperly can influence the damping behaviour of the orthosis (e.g. triggering the
swing phase due to toe load).
→ When walking down stairs, always use the handrail and roll over the edge of the step with the middle of the
shoe.
→ If the audible alarm sounds, stop walking down stairs immediately and check whether stance phase control is
active.
→ Observe the acoustic warning signals (beep signals) of the orthosis.
→ Particular caution is required when carrying children down stairs.
CAUTION
Walking down stairs or ramps with elevated flexion resistance (STP Flexion Damping Plus)
This may lead to falling caused by:
► Unexpected, high stance phase damping during the transition from a level surface to the first step of a stair
case or when negotiating a ramp.
→ When walking up stairs, always use the handrail and place the full surface of the foot onto the step.
→ Before taking the first step onto stairs or a ramp, pause briefly and verify switching from elevated flexion resist
ance (STP Flexion Damping Plus) to normal stance phase damping (STP Flexion Damping). Switching nor
mally takes less than one second.
→ Particular caution is required when carrying children down stairs or ramps.
CAUTION
Overheating of the hydraulic unit due to uninterrupted, increased activity (e.g. extended walking down
hill)
Falling or skin irritation may result, caused by:
► Orthosis malfunction caused by overheating of the hydraulic unit.
► Hydraulic unit defects with associated leakage of liquid.
► Touching overheated components can also cause burns.
→ Take note of recurring beep signals. They indicate the risk of overheating.
→ As soon as these beep signals begins, stop all activities and allow the hydraulic unit to cool down.
→ Activities may be resumed after the beep signals stop.
→ If the activity is continued after recurring beep signals commence, this may lead to overheating of the hydraul
ic unit and damage to the orthosis in extreme cases.
