16.Tubes
The WILD M7A and M7S Stereomicroscopes
have a rennovable binocular tube, so that
various accessories such as phototubes, the
drawing tube or the double-iris diaphragm
can be fitted.
- Remove the binocular tube (see section 3).
- Mount the accessory tube.
- Replace the binocular tube on the acces-
sory tube.
It is advantageous to use the low binocular
tube with these combinations.
16.1 Double-iris diaphragm
With the double-iris diaphragm, which fits
between the optics carrier and the binocular
tube (fig. 1) or the phototube A, the depth of
field can be matched to the characteristics
of the object (see section 23.5). This is par-
ticularly advantageous in photomicrography
in monocular assembly, because no double-
iris diaphragm is incorporated in the photo-
tube A.
Double-iris diaphragms are however an in-
tegral part of the binocular tubes T, of the
trinocular phototubes HU and HV, and of
the beam Splitters. .
The double-iris diaphragm enables a satis-
factory practical balance to be reached be-
tween resoiution and depth of field for any
given magnification.
When the diaphragms are partly closed, the
light cone entering the objective is reduced
after
passing through the
magnification
changer.
The depth of field increases and the image
brightness is reduced.,
The iris diaphragms are operated with the
lever(71).
Position 1 is the smallest aperture; position
"OPEN"isthe largest.
16.2 Discussion tube
The WILD M7Aand M7S Stereomicroscopes
can be expanded into an excellent training
instrument by combining them with a dis-
cussion tube (fig. 2). Two observers see the
same image simultaneously, so that both
Instruction and discussion are possible.
The discussion tube is connected to the uni-
versal stand by means of a drive housing.
The optics carrier is fitted beneath the dis-
cussion tube, and the two binocular tubes
are fitted above it.
