14. Attachment f or vertical
and obüque Observation
This attachment enables three-dimensional
objects to be viewed and photographed either
vertically or at an angle of 45° without it
being necessaryto turn or tilt them (fig. 1).
The attachment can be attached tothe mount
of the main objective and equipped with an
illuminator.
Further details are given in the Instruction
booklet M2 265.
15. Polarisation
Double-refracting substances such as many
crystals, petrological thin sections andfibres,
can be more easily seen and identified in
polarised light.
The IV17S Stereomicroscope offers parti-
cular advantages in the determination of
Polarisation colours. The vertical-beam Po-
sition enables the correct colour to be ob-
tained, because the Observation direction is
exactly perpendicular to the plane of the
section.
The transmitted-light Stands accept either
the polariser on glass stage plate or the
rotating Pol. stage. All polarising sets re-
quire an analyser in jotating mount, which is
fitted to the objective mount.
If photographs are taken in polarised light, a
quartz plate must be built into the shutter-
piece.
15.1 Polariser on glass stage plate
- Place the polariser on glass stage plate,
polariser downwards, in the cutout of the
transmitted-light stand (fig. 3).
- Rotate the analyser using the lever (83)
so that the field of view without specimen
is asdarkas possible.
- Place the specimen in position and focus
on it.
