6.3 Ring Illuminator
The ring illuminator, which produces light of
daylight quality, is used for the shadow-free
illumination of spatial objects. The intensity
suffices for magnifications of up to 40*.
- Remove the securing ring (19).
- Slide the holder ring over the objective
mount and secure it with the securing ring.
- Using the screw(42), secure the lamp hous-
ing atthedesired height.
- Set the choke to the available voltage as
follows:
Unscrew the fuse holder (41).
Pull out the cover plate of the voltage se-
lector and replace it so that the appropriate
voltage is visible in the cutout:
110V position for 100-120 V supply
220 V position for 200-240 V supply
Tighten the fuse holder.
- Connect the power cable.
- Switch on the illuminator with the toggle
switch (40).

6.4 Fluorescent surface illuminator
The fluorescent surface illuminator produces
light of daylight quality and serves to light up
large surfaces without producing hot-spots
or shadows (fig. 3).
- Connect the illuminator to the power
supply, taking account of the voltage avai-
lable. Two modeis are available, for 110 V /
60 Hz and for 220 V / 5 0 Hz.
- Each lamp can be switched on separately.
For starting without flicker, press the white
button for about two seconds. This will
also increase the life of the fluorescent
tubes.
Switch off by briefly pressing the red button.
- The best lighting arrangement is obtained
by placing the ballast unit behind the ste-
reomicroscope stand, bringing the two
illuminator arms past the sides of the in-
strument.
- The angle of incidence of the light and the
distance from the specimen are adjustable
by means of joints. The joints are separa-
tely adjustable by means of screws, in order
to provide the degre'e of braking required.
- The four white fluorescent tubes can be
replaced by four UV fluorescent tubes
(4 VV, X = 300-400 nm, with a maximum
at 356 nm, e.g. Sylvania F4T5 BLB).
To change the tubes, first slacken the two
screws on the refleotor to remove the
screen (39).
Avoid l.ooking directly at switched-on UV
tubes.
