4. Objectives
The optics carrier includes a built-in main
objective of magnification 1 .Ox and working
distance 91 mm (see table p. 71).
Working distance, field diameter and total
magnification can be altered by securing
additional objectives with factors 0.3x, 0.5x,
1.5x or 2.0x in front of the main objective
(fig.D.
The 0.3x additional objective, with its work-
ing distance of 265 mm, is mostly used with
the universal stand or with the swinging-
arm stand, or if the stereomicroscope is to
be mounted on a machine.
The 0.5x, 1.5x and 2.0x additional objectives
can be used on all incident- and transmitted-
light Stands.
Depending on the working distance of the
additional objective, the instrument must be
raised or lowered on the column of the stand.
Because of the short working distance of the
2.0x objective, the safety ring must be re-
moved (fig. 2), By loosening the screw (18),
the outer mount of the 2.0x objective can be
removed to provide more space for working
on the object.
If the Standard objective is used alternately
with and without the 2.0x additional objec-
tive, the corresponding working distances
can be set without changing the height of the
stereomicroscope on the column:
- Secure the 2.0x additional objective.
- Wind the focusing drive completely down.
- Slide the instrument up the column until
the object is visible in the field of view.
- Secure the stereomicroscope with the
screw (6) or (98). -
- Use the focusing drive to focus on the
object.
- Remove the 2.0x additional objective.
- Use the focusing drive to set the optics
carrier to the working distance of 91 mm,
and focus on the object.
