13. ChargIng prograM for lead aCId Cell aCCuMulators

a) general information

Lead acid batteries are completely different to NiMH or NiCd batteries. In comparison to their high capacity they can
only provide low currents. The charging process is also different.
The charge current for lead acid batteries may only be a maximum of one-tenth the accumulator's capacity (1/10 C).
A maximum charge current of 0.5A (500mA) may be set for a 5000mAh (5Ah) lead acid accumulator.
It is not permitted to rapidly charge lead acid batteries, as this would overload the accumulator - resul-
ting in a risk of fire and explosion!
Always heed the information printed on the accumulator or the details provided by the accumulator
manufacturer on the permitted charge current.
b) Charging accumulators („Charge")
• In the main menu, select the „Pb" charge program with the button „Batt Type/Stop".
• Press the button „Start/Enter"; the display shows the following, for example:

• If the values need to be changed, press the „Start/Enter" button. The charge current begins to flash.
• Change the charge current using the buttons „+>" and „
voltage/cell number then begins to flash.
The value on the left in the second line shows the charge current,
the value on the right shows the voltage or number of cells of the
accumulator (in this example, a 3-cell lead accumulator, 3x 2.0V
= 6.0V).
