CALIBRA-
TION Selector
This selector permits automatic or manual
selection of the bias and level parameters for
recording.
The
CALIBRATION
selector
should be set either to REF or MANU posi-
tion when recording.
REF(rence):
This position automatically se-
lects the factory-preset values for each tape
type when cassette tape is inserted.
MANU{al):
This position permits fine cali-
bration of the bias and level parameters to
assure optimum tape performance.
See page 10 for further details on actual
calibration procedures.

@ TEST TONE Button
Pressing this button activates the test tone
signal coming from the built-in oscillator to
calibrate the LEVEL and the BIAS.

These controls adjust the LEVEL L and R

@ BIAS Calibration Controls
These
controls adjust the BIAS L and R
independently.
@ AUTO REVERSE Switch
The setting of this switch determines how
the R-999X will operate during the play or
record mode when the tape reaches the end
stop.
=

AUTO REVERSE
== When the tape reaches the end stop, the
play or record mode will be released.
=> During reverse play or record, when the
tape reaches the end stop, the play or record
mode will be released.
During forward play
or record, when
the tape reaches the end
stop,
the
direction
of
tape
movement
will reverse to the reverse play or record
mode.
Reverse play or record will continue
to the end stop at which time the play or
record mode will be released.
c= During either forward or reverse play
operation, when the tape reaches the end
stop, the direction of tape movement will be
reversed
and
play
will continue
in the
opposite direction.
The operation will be
repeated
over
and
over
until
the STOP
button is pressed or the AUTO
REVERSE
switch setting is changed.
Note:
Repeat operation is not possible in
the record mode.
Playback and Recording
Stereo Playback
The procedures for stereo
playback have
been detailed on page 4. Note that during
playback through an amplifier, the OUT-
PUT control should be set to about 2 — 3
o'clock position and the volume control on
the amplifier should be used to adjust the
level,
When listening over headphones, the OUT-
PUT control can be used to adjust the level.
QDOUTPUT Control
This knob is used to adjust the output level
to the PHONES jack and OUTPUT jacks on
the rear panel. Both channels are controlled
together.
The level indicated on the PEAK
PROGRAM
LEVEL METER is not affected
by the rotation of this knob.

Stereo Recording
(1) Check that the TIMER switch is in the
OUT position and the AUTO REVERSE
switch is set to the desired position.
If
you want a bi-directional recording, set
the AUTO
REVERSE
switch to either
the = or c=» position.
@ Press the POWER switch to apply power
to the deck.
