If your clock timer is a multi programmable
type, the deck will enter the record mode
every time the clock timer supplies power to
the system.
Timer-Controlled Playback Operation
1, Check that the deck is correctly con-
nected
to
the amplifier
for normal
playback operation.
2. Connect the deck and amplifier to a
clock
timer
as
for
timer-controlled
recording (above).
3. Make
all preparations
as for normal
playback,
but do not set the tape in
motion.
4. Set the TIMER switch on the deck to
PLAY.
When the selected time arrives, power will
be applied and the deck will begin to play.
When the tape reaches the end, the pinch
roller will be released and the heads will be
lowered.
Power will still be connected
to the deck. (In repeat mode ( <>
), the
deck
will
continue
playing
repeatedly).
Real-Time Reverse and End Stop
In order to give exactly equal tape pass
Conditions in both directions of tape travel,
an extra refinement has been added to the
rotary rec/play head system.
This means
that two
capstans
are provided,
rotating
simultaneously in opposite directions. Only
One at a time is in contact with the pinch
roller, while the other is ready waiting to
take over as soon as the tape reaches the
end.
Conventional auto-reverse decks used to let
the tape run out to the end and use the
mechanical
stop to activate the reversing
mechanism.
This caused annoying periods
of silence at the end of each tape before the
direction could be reverse and of course
made
auto-reverse
recording
impossible.
TEAC has solved these problems by using
"real-time reverse'.
An infra-red LED and
light sensing transistor detect the change in
reflected infra-red light at the point where
the leader tape is spliced to the magnetic
tape and high-speed
microprocessor logic,
coupled with the dual-capstan system, gives
an automatic reverse time no other auto-
reverse deck on the market can even ap-
proach. So fast we call it real-time!
It is noted that the tape sensor does not
function for about 15 seconds after the start
of tape to ensure correct operation of the
sensing function or for a certain type of tape
showing a special performance at the spliced
point
of the magnetic
tape.
Therefore,
mechanical
end stop is used during this
time.

Three-Head System
A three-head system means that you can re-
cord on the tape and monitor from it at the
same time (see illustration).
Conventional
combination record/playback heads permit
only recording or playback. With the three-
head system, you can check the quality of
your recordings as you make them.
