Select Button
and Indicators
This switch allows you to select which signal
is to be monitored and to display its level on
the meter.
TAPE: Selects the tape signal either in play-
back and record mode.
The level displayed
by the meter is not affected by the setting
of the OUTPUT control.
SOURCE:
Selects the input signal connect-
ed to the LINE IN jacks. The level display-
ed by the meter depends on the setting of
the RECORD controls.
When the power is applied to the R-999X,
the monitor mode is set to TAPE.
Pressing
this button each time changes the monitor
mode and the indicator lights to show the
present monitor mode.
The AUTO MONITOR
function automatical-
ly changes the monitor mode in record and
record-pause mode.
In recording, the moni-
tor should be set to TAPE to check the re-
corded sound.
When you enter the record-
pause mode by pressing the PAUSE button,
the monitor signal will be changed to SOUR-
CE and when you resume recording by press-
ing the PAUSE button again, the monitor
source will be back ta TAPE automatically.

<< (Rewind) Button
Pressing the button rewinds the tape at high
speed (from right to left). When the tape is
fully rewound, the stop mechanism
auto-
matically stops the tape transport.
>> (Fast Forward) Button
Press this button if you want to fast forward
the tape (from left to right).
The stop
mechanism operates when the tape is fully
wound.
(Reverse
Play) Button
(with indicator
lamp)
Pressing this button causes the tape to run
at normal speed (from right to left).
> (Forward Play) Button (with indicator
lamp)
Pressing this button causes the tape to run
at normal speed (from left to right).
Note:
The tape direction ( < or > ) pre-
viously selected
will be maintained
even
after the power has been cut. Take this into
account during timer-controlled operation.
STOP Button
Press this button to stop the tape end and
release any other mode.

lights up during the reverse playback and
play pause mode, but will blink during

up when the reverse record mode is set.

CLEAR:
Pressing the CLEAR button resets
either the conventional tape coun-
ter or the TRT counter to zero.

Used to select one of the display
modes.

@cPs Button
This button, together with the <4 or >>
button, controls the CPS (Computomatic
Program Search) function when the deck is
in the play ( < or > ), play-pause, record
(or
>), record-pause mode or stop made.
This is explained in more detail on the page
9.
Pressing it makes the CPS function on,
and to cancel the CPS function; 1) before
or b> is pressed, press CLEAR, or MODE
button; 2) after<<orppis pressed, press any
of transport control button.
The CPS button is to be used also in CDS,
INTRO CHECK and BLANK SCAN func-
tions.
@INTRO CHECK Button
The facility makes searching for a specific
selection much easier.
When this button is
pressed, the deck enters the play mode to
play the first approximately ten seconds of
the beginning
of a recording and then
fast-forwards to the beginning of the next
recording
(CP
1 appears
on
the
Multi
Display). This operation will continue until
the STOP, PLAY (<>),
<4
,»» or REC
(<>) button is pressed.
Pressing repeatedly the CPS button while
the CP 1 is displayed makes increase the
CPS number.
By this CPS function the deck skips to a
required recording and enters the play mode
and continues the INTRO CHECK function.
(Pressing the CPS button during the play-
back in INTRO
CHECK
cancels INTRO
CHECK
function.)
To cancel the INTRO
CHECK-CPS function press any of transport
control button.
The
directions
of the
INTRO
CHECK
depends on AUTO REVERSE Mode switch.
In repeat mode, INTRO
CHECK function
will automatically
stop
when
the deck
detects the tape end three times.
@BLOCK REPEAT Memory Buttons
START MEMO and STOP MEMO are used
to memorize the start and stop positions for
BLOCK
REPEAT operation.
See page 11
for a fuller explanation of the operation.
START MEMO Button: This button is used
to memorize
the starting position of the
tape. Press the button and the indicator will
light.
The position on the tape at the
moment
the
button
is pressed
will
be
remembered
if the deck is in play, play-
pause, record or record-pause.

STOP MEMO
button has the effect of cancelling previous-
ly memorized positions, unless it is pressed
during the fast-forward 'or rewind
mode.
Previously memorized positions will also be
cancelled if the deck has been turned off or
if the previous cassette has been ejected.
If a starting position has been thus memo-
rized and the STOP MEMO
button is off,
the deck will automatically enter the play
mode during fast-forward or rewind when
the memorized point on the tape is reached.
The function can be switched off and the
memorized
position cancelled by pressing
the button again.
STOP MEMO Button:
This button is used
to memorize the position on the tape where
you want it to stop. Press the button at the
desired
position, the indicator lamp will
light.
It functions exactly like the START
MEMO button; if the STOP MEMO button
is on and the START MEMO button is off,
the deck will automatically stop in either
the fast-forward or rewind mode when the
memorized position is reached.
