Notes:
1. During BLOCK
REPEAT operation and
memory
start or stop operations,
the
tape transport
may
not always stop
exactly at the memorized counter index
due to the force of inertia which is built
up through fast winding.
This will not
affect the actual above functions though.
2. The memory and CPS functions cannot
be used at the same time.

@OPEN/CLOSE Button
Pushing the button opens the Auto Glide
Panel and pushing the button again closes
the panel.
When you close the panel, be careful not to
get your fingers caught in the door.
@ REMOTE Control Socket
The optional RC-205 Remote Control Unit
can be connected to this socket to provide
remote control of the transport from up to
approx. 4.5m (15 feet) away.
Even when
the remote control unit is connected to the
deck, the transport controls on the deck can
still be used.
RC-205, Remote Control Unit
Note:
One function
in the RC-205 is
different from the R-999X.
To enter the
record
mode,
press the RECORD
button
and PLAY (
or > ) button simultaneous-
ly.
@REC MUTE & PAUSE Buttons
REC MUTE
While a recording is being made, pressing the
REC MUTE button (REC LED will blink
for 4 sec. and then light up in steady state)
provides four seconds of blank space on a
tape for proper CPS (Computomatic Pro-
gram Search) operation.
After the four-
second interval, the deck enters the record-
pause
mode.
Pressing the REC
MUTE
button a second time before the four-second
interval
has expired
cancels the muting
mode and normal recording resumes.
By
keeping the REC MUTE button pressed, a
longer period of muting can be applied.
Releasing the button
causes the deck to
enter
the record-pause
mode.
To start
recording again, press the PAUSE button.
See page 10 for additional information.
REC
MUTE
PAUSE
PAUSE
Use the PAUSE
button to stop the tape
motion temporarily during record or play-
back.
The pinch roller is retracted from the
Capstan and the tape stops moving, but the
previously selected mode is not cancelled.
Press PAUSE,
<4, >» or STOP button to
release the pause mode. If the deck is in the
record-pause or play-pause mode, pressing
the PAUSE button resumes normal record-
ing or playback.
Note:
The pause mode cannot be entered
when the deck is in the rewind or fast
forward mode.
@RECORD Button
In order to initiate recording,
press this
button ( < or > ). The deck will enter the
record mode, the RECORD
indicator lamp
will light and the tape will run at normal
speed.
If the PAUSE
button is on, and
the RECORD
( < or >) button is pressed
together, the deck will enter the record-
pause mode — the deck is ready for record-
ing but the tape will not run. Subsequently
pressing the PAUSE button will set the deck
in the record mode.
If the REC MUTE
button
is pressed
when
the deck is in
record-pause mode, the RECORD
indicator
lamp will flash on and off. Record muting
can be initiated from the record-pause mode
by pressing the PAUSE button.
Note:
It is not possible to initiate the
record mode if the cassette inserted in the
deck
has had the record-protection
tabs
removed.

@BLANK SCAN Button
When
a blank of more than 10 seconds
is encountered
with this button
pressed
ON,
the deck will enter the CPS mode
automatically (CP 1 appears on the Multi
Display) and fast-forward to the beginn-
ing of the next recording.
Pressing the
CPS
button
repeatedly
while
the
Multi
Display
indicates
CP 1 makes
increase
the CPS number.
By using this function
you can skip to a desired recording (for
example, CP 3 means that after 10 seconds
the deck fast-forwards to the 3rd recording).
To cancel this BLANK SCAN-CPS function
press any of the transport control button,
which
makes the deck enter the pressed
transport mode.
You can also skip the long
blank portions at the end of the tape (side A
or B) to start auto reverse playback.
The directions of the BLANK SCAN func-
tion depends on AUTO
REVERSE
Mode
switch.
Note:
Pressing the CPS button while the
Display indicates the TRT or Tape counter
mode
with
BLANK
SCAN
function
on
makes the deck in "CPS ready mode" and
BLANK SCAN function does not work.
In
this case, after one tape end is detected,
BLANK
SCAN
function will start again.
@RECORD Level Controls
These slide controls are used to adjust the
level of the input signal before it is recorded
on the tape.
The left and right channels
may
be adjusted separately if required.
The highest peak' to be recorded should
generally not exceed the "0" readings on
the meters.
