On occasions when a tiered switch is not recognized by the KVM s2-0411 and KVM s3-
1621 appliances, it may be necessary to reset the KVM-IA which connects the tiered
switch to the KVM s2-0411 and KVM s3-1621 appliances. This can be done using the
Reset KVM-IA button in the KVM-IAs sub-category.
PS/2, USB, and USB2 KVM-IAs are available. In addition the KVM s2-0411
i
and KVM s3-1621 appliances are compatible with all Avocent IQ modules
including Sun and serial IQ modules.
The Reset KVM-IAs button is only enabled when the KVM-IA type is PS/2 and
i
when a firmware upgrade is not in progress.
This procedure is only relevant where your KVM s2-0411 and KVM s3-1621
i
appliances system involves a PS/2 KVM-IA attached to a tiered switch. On
these occasions, it may be necessary to reset the KVM-IA when the tiered
switch is not recognized.
If a reset is performed, when a KVM s2-0411 or KVM s3-1621 appliance is
i
connected directly to a server and not a Cascade Switch, the mouse/keyboard
may fail to respond. When this occurs, the target server requires a reboot.
To reset a KVM-IA:
Click the Configure tab in the on-board web interface, then click the KVM-IAs sub-
category from the Versions category in the left column.
Click the EID of the KVM-IA you want to reset.
Click Reset KVM-IA. A warning message indicates this function is reserved for
tiered switches and that resetting the KVM-IA may result in the need to reboot the
server.
Click OK to continue.
