Since performing one alignment correction almost invariably
affects the other alignment conditions, this process may have to
be repeated several times.
Notice
The sequence in which the misalignment correction is carried
out may vary from one situation to the next.
PULLALIGN enables one to monitor all three alignment conditions
simultaneously. The accuracy of the alignment is greatly increased
and the process can be completed faster and with ease.
Wrong belt tension (as well as misalignment) adversely affects
the life of the belts and the efficiency of the drive as a whole.
After the pulleys have been aligned, it is paramount to tension
the belts properly. Using a spring scale, press down on the belt in
the approximate center of its span (on the tight side), to deflect
the belt 1 mm per 100 mm (1/64" per inch) of span length and
observe the force required to do so. If unsure of the belt span
length, use the centre-to-centre distance of the pulleys.
Tension the belts until the force required for this deflection equals
the belt manufacturer's maximum recommended force values for
the specific belts you are using. This force must not exceed the
machinery's design loads. The force values for all belts should
fall within 10% of each other. There is every possibility that the
alignment conditions will alter as the MTBM is shifted in order to
slacken or tighten the belts. The PULLALIGN principle will help
monitor the alignment condition as the belts are adjusted for the
correct tension.
