Power connections of the 100 - 200 kW braking units
The braking unit may be connected to the DC bus bar with or without
using fuses. The connections between the drive converter or inverter
and braking unit must be short-circuit- and ground-fault proof.
The dielectric strength rating of the cable must be selected according to
the line voltage.
♦ Fuses are necessary for multi-motor systems with a common DC
link (incoming power > > braking unit rating).
♦ High voltage fuses (1000 V) must be used in the positive and
negative branches (fuses type see Table 7-1).
♦ Fuses are not required for single-motor drives (one braking unit on
converter).
These fuses only provide protection in "critical situations". They do not
protect the braking unit or external braking resistor.
