ITU-T
An abbreviation for International Telecommunication
Union, Telecommunications.
LDN
An abbreviation for Local Directory Number.
Lip synchronization
A function that synchronizes sound with motion.
Sound processing is much faster than motion
processing, thus sound and motion sometimes get out
of step with each other.
Menu
A collection of settings shown on the TV monitor
which the user can change.
MSN
An abbreviation for Multi Subscriber Number.
NC
An abbreviation for Normal Close.
NO
An abbreviation for Normal Open.
Packet
An grouping of data sent across a packet switching
network. A packet includes a header containing control
information and user data.
Packet switching
Networking method to send the packet to the
destination.
PBX
An abbreviation for Private Branch eXchange.
PinP
An abbreviation for Picture-in-Picture. This function
allows the user, while keeping the remote scene on the
TV monitor, to display the local scene in a smaller
window on the same TV monitor.
PIO
An abbreviation for Parallel Input/Output. A method
that sends multiple bit data items simultaneously.
Protocol
A formal description of a set of rules to be followed
for devices to exchange information.

PTZ
An abbreviation for Pan Tilt Zoom.
QCIF
An abbreviation for Quarter CIF. The number of pixels
is a quarter that of CIF format. (176 pixels × 144 lines)
Rate adaption
A process that converts a digital data stream to a
different format and speed (e.g., converting 64Kbps
data and 56Kbps data).
Restricted network
A network that uses only 56Kbps of the 64Kbps B-
channel.
SIO
An abbreviation for Serial Input/Output.
A method of sending data one bit at a time on
communication lines.
Site name
The name displayed when a line is connected. If the
system is set to display the site name, the user can
easily identify the connection location. In PMS-500P/
400P, a terminal name is set as a site name.
SPID
An abbreviation for Service Profile ID.
Subaddress
One ISDN line can support up to 8 devices. Because
all these devices share the same line number,
subaddresses are applied to them so that each has a
unique number.
TDM
An abbreviation for Time Division Multiplexing.
One of the multiplexing technologies that share a
group of lines. The length of time for using the shared
line is equally divided; the time is sequentially
allocated to the line.
Terminal adaptor
A device used to connect various equipment to a
digital line. The device sits between the equipment and
the digital line and checks that signals are correctly
sent or received.
