Introduction

The RA-510M Refractometer is used for the simple determination of the refractive index of
solutions. It
• measures solutions with an index in the range 1.32000 to 1.56000.
• needs a minimum amount of substance (0.2 milliliters) for measurement.
• keeps the temperature of the sample being measured constant between 15 and 40 °C
thanks to a built-in thermostat control.
• has five methods stored in its memory, which you can change to suit your measurements.
• displays the sugar content of samples directly in Brix degrees.
• calculates the concentration of a solution using data of measured standard solutions or
tables.
• stores maximum 100 measured values per method.
• performs statistical evaluations (mean value, standard deviation, relative standard devia-
tion) and allows recalculation of results.
If the RA-510M is equipped with an HFCS-EPROM, the measured refractive index of the
solu-tions in question is automatically converted into % dry substance of invert sugar.
To the RA-510M you can attach
• the
METTLER TOLEDO
• the ASU-510 sampling unit to perform continuous measurements,
• the DCU-300A automatic cleaning unit to automate continuous measurements, or
• the CHG-241M sample changer to perform measurement series automatically,
• the DA-300M or DA-310M density meter to determine the density and refractive index simul-
taneously,
• a computer to transfer experimental data.
