Handling and Use
Diving the DrägerRay
Whilst diving check your mixed gas supply regularly. We
recommend to use the DrägerRay together with a
suitable nitrox diving computer. These computers have an
integrated acoustic device to warn you, if your pressure
is coming below an adjustable value. This active warning
will increase your safety.
Ascending with the DrägerRay
As with any buoyancy compensator, the DrägerRay is not
meant to be an express elevator, taking you up and down
the water column. Fill it only with short puffs of air from
the power inflator, being careful to have the dump valve
within easy reach to control your ascent. Always ascend
with one hand on the dump valve, to allow yourself a
slow, normal ascent to the surface. Remember, volume in
any closed air space will double between 33 ft./10 m and
the surface, so pay particular attention to your buoyancy
and rate of ascent during this period.The same caution
should be applied when using a drysuit with the
DrägerRay.
Drysuits will act in the same manner as the buoyancy
compensator, and the gas space within the drysuit must
be accounted for on ascent.
Warning!
It is important to use an alternative gas supply
when using a dry suit. Filling the suit from the
Nitrox-Supply is not admissible due to the risk of an
Oxygen Burn.
When using the Dräger OXYgauge this will be connect to
the exhalation side of the breathing loop. This means it
will always measure 4,5 Vol. % less Oxygen the actually
are in the loop. The readings of the OXYgauge have to
be corrected according to the following table:

Warning!
When you ever will recognise symptoms of
hypoxia, do not immediatly switch over to your
bail out system, because then you will immediatly
breathe a mixture with a higher content of oxygen than
in the breathing loop. First reduce your diving depth.
